Crafty Weekend...

I had a fun weekend!  I worked on some baby shower things for my friend Rebecca's shower.  It was really just a good excuse to craft :) Rebecca, if you're reading...you need to stop now. I want you to be suprised.

The first thing I decided to make was some baby barrettes for her little girl.  Next up, butt ruffles.
I had ALWAYS wanted to make a cute garland.  But I never had a good reason...I mean it might be weird if I put my own name on one and hang it above my bed.  :) So, as a great excuse to begin, I used Rebecca's new baby's name (emma jane) and made a cute little garland. I figure if I were her, I would maybe re-use it for a bday someday...so I hope she likes it!!
It was super easy. I just started with felt (I bought it by the yard), a fabric that I liked, cardboard letters (bought a package at Jo-Ann's for about $3), scissors, and a hot glue gun (aka my best friend)
1. First, I traced the letters onto the fabric. I had to do them backward (NOT as show in the picture) so that when I cut them they would come out correct side up on the fabric.  If you don't believe me, try it. You are probably already smart enough to figure it out. It took me one try :)
2. Next, I decided how big I wanted the triangle to be. I decided by tracing the largest letter (the m) and folding it in half, then making my triangle the same way.  ONce I had one, I used it as a template to make all the rest.
3.  Once I got them all cut out, which took a while, I hot glued the letters onto the felt. I didn't use much glue, becuase I didn't want it to be obvious.  I'm sure there is a much better way to attach it, but I just thought that hot glue seemed natural, since I use it for everything else.

And then finally, I decided to sew my first burp cloth.  Seemed easy enough.  And it was!

Just measured the fabric, pinned it in place, sewed it up into a rectangle, and then pulled it right side out.  My only problem was how to sew up the little one inch hole left over.  I don't do hand sewing very well :)
But I try.  So here it is:
Have a great week!!
